Unitiva chooses Kyklos Carbon for its first sustainability report

Discover how Kyklos Carbon supported Unitiva in creating its first sustainability report. This process enabled the company to measure its impacts on the environment and society, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and set the foundation for a more responsible growth path.

The client

Unitiva S.r.l. is a software house specializing in the development of innovative technological solutions based on open-source technologies. The company supports businesses, institutions, and organizations in their digital transformation journey, offering tailored tools to improve efficiency and competitiveness.

For Unitiva, embracing sustainability is a natural extension of its mission to combine innovation with responsibility. This awareness led the company to embark on a structured sustainability journey designed to measure the impact of its operations and steadily improve internal processes.

What they asked us

Over the years, Unitiva has become increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability for responsible and long-term growth. However, the company lacked a structured framework to measure, manage, and communicate its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts.

To meet this need, Kyklos Carbon proposed developing Unitiva’s first sustainability report—an essential tool to provide a clear, comprehensive overview of the company’s ESG performance for both external stakeholders and internal leadership, while laying the foundation for a sustainability strategy built on continuous improvement.

What we did

1. Data collection and analysis

Every sustainability journey starts with understanding the baseline. In this phase, Kyklos Carbon worked with Unitiva to collect and analyze ESG data to obtain an accurate overview of the company’s impacts.

We engaged Unitiva’s key departments through dedicated questionnaires, interviews, and document reviews, gathering quantitative and qualitative information across the three sustainability pillars:

  • environment: energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions (carbon footprint), waste management, water resources;
  • social: training hours provided, gender equality, welfare policies, workplace health and safety, employee well-being;
  • governance: governance structure, code of ethics, legal compliance, remuneration policies, internal reporting mechanisms;

This analysis allowed us to highlight Unitiva’s positive and negative impacts and identify priority areas for improvement in the coming years.

2. Defining improvement actions

Sustainability reporting is not just about measuring and communicating ESG performance; it also serves as a strategic tool to guide priorities and inform future business decisions with a focus on continuous improvement.

With this perspective, Kyklos Carbon supported Unitiva in defining short- and medium-term actions that align both with the priorities identified through the ESG impact analysis and with the company’s broader strategic objectives.

The resulting actions—such as expanding the carbon footprint assessment to include waste and cloud services, pursuing UNI/PdR 125:2022 gender equality certification, and updating governance policies—were then incorporated into the sustainability report.

3. Drafting the sustainability report

Kyklos Carbon managed the entire drafting process, applying the main international reporting standards:

  • Global Reporting Initiative (GRI);
  • Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB);
  • Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed SMEs (VSME).

Structured intuitively and supported by charts, indicators, and verifiable data, the report offers a complete overview of Unitiva’s ESG performance and future commitments.

Results achieved

Unitiva’s first sustainability report marks a significant milestone. It enabled the company to systematically map its ESG impacts and identify concrete improvement actions.

In addition to enhancing transparency with stakeholders, the report generated tangible internal benefits: it increased awareness of ESG topics and improved the management of sustainability-related data.

However, sustainability is an ongoing journey. In the coming years, it will be essential to consistently monitor progress, update ESG data annually, and assess the effectiveness of the actions undertaken.

Kyklos Carbon will continue guiding Unitiva in developing a sustainability-driven growth model built on continuous progress.
